Press Release: Parents vote Barcelona their favourite city
28 Nov 2006
Barcelona has been voted number one city for a family short break, according to a new survey of UK parents.
The Spanish city pipped London to the title by just over one percent in the poll on leading family travel website takethefamily.com.
Dublin came third followed by Paris and Rome with Amsterdam bringing up the rear.
Over 800 parents took part in the poll to find the nation's favourite short break destination for families. Managing director Lucy Ace said: "More and more families are enjoying short city breaks. City hotels are increasingly offering family packages with interconnecting rooms, kids menus as well as free entry to museums, zoos and other family focussed activities and events.
"It seems that parents and kids simply couldn't get enough of Barcelona. It is a wonderful family destination. With its tapas bars, wonderful human statues along Las Ramblas, its quirky Gaudi architecture, award-winning aquarium, great zoo, cable cars and Parc Guell. Plus the city is just a short train journey to the beach resort of Sitges, which is well equipped for kids. And like all the cities listed in our poll, it is in easy reach with more and more good value flights available.
"Truly great cities have plenty for both children and adults to enjoy. Take Paris - one minute your children can be whirling round on a carousel in Les Jardins Tuileries, the next you can all be feasting on a freshly cooked crepe before nipping into the Louvre for a touch of well deserved adult culture."
