Overview

These three historic, mainly traffic-free villages on a high, sunny plateau in the lovely Tirol region of Austria have together been described as the most family-friendly resort in the Alps by several expert publications thanks to their incredible array of children’s amenities and activities. Indeed, it’s so child-friendly that those with young kids can hire electric strollers to help them go uphill and navigate snowy terrain and wintry village streets.

Despite their up-to-the-minute offerings, however, Serfaus, Fiss and Ladis have all retained their authentic charm and atmosphere. And uniquely, this resort offers 19 ‘feel-good stops’ with ergonomic loungers, hammocks and other lounge furniture set up at the loveliest viewpoints, for resting, sunbathing and taking in the gorgeous mountain vista.

Things to do with kids in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis

At an altitude of 1,200–2,820m, enjoy 214 skiable kilometres of perfectly groomed runs and 30km of maintained cross-country skiing trails, along with toboggan runs, free-ride slopes and several winter fun areas. A total of 68 state-of-the art lift systems make getting about the ski area a breeze.

Take advantage of the Kinderschneealm, Murmli Park and Berta’s Kinderland children’s and teens ski and snowboard areas.

Book the family into one of the excellent ski schools (Ski School Serfaus and Ski School Fiss-Ladis are two of the most highly commended in the entire Tirol). For younger kids there is all-day childcare at the Murmli Crèche or Bertas Kindergarten, or childcare mixed with introductory ski lessons at the three-storey Berta's Kindervilla in the Fiss-Ladis ski school.

Ride the Family Coaster Schneisenfeger 8m above the ground, through roundabouts, banked turns and over jumps and slopes at up to 40 km/h. It takes you all the way down to the Hög Adventure Park.

Let teens loose on the flying attractions of the Serfauser Sauser, Fisser Flieger and Skyswing Fiss.

Enjoy the resort’s playgrounds, experience tracks and other children’s activities, including the Dino Forest, Animal Park, Berta's Indian Village, Fiss Cave World, a climbing tower, a merry-go-round, an adventure course, motor-sledging courses, the Bear's Slope and the interactive Murmli Trail.

Explore the huge new indoor play centre and climbing gym, PLAYIN, with its laser game room, six-storey soft-play area, 11 climbing walls, bouldering zone reminiscent of a chemistry lab and interactive play wall.

Watch evening shows including the Adventure Night in Serfaus, the Nightflow show in Fiss and the grand Magic Ladis event at Laudeck Castle in Ladis, all with fireworks and special effects, acrobats and thrilling performances by local ski instructors.

When to go to Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis

Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis’ ski season lasts from the first week in December to late April. This is a snow-sure resort because most skiing is above 1,800m and 80% of the slopes can be covered by artificial snow.

Cost

Given its level of facilities, Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis can represent good value for money when compared with the likes of Switzerland and France. As elsewhere, renting an apartment or apart-hotel can help keep costs down. Other ways of saving including the Young Families ticket for parents with children under three years.
