In the Calvados region of Normandy, La Ferme de la Folivraie was the first Feather Down Farm glamping site in France. A small organic dairy farm, it's located in a village just a mile from one of the most famous of the Normandy landing beaches, Omaha, in a meadow beside a river.
Staying here is a great opportunity for you and the kids to practise your French, although the friendly farming family who run it are also happy to improve their English skills. There are animals all over the place, including donkeys, goats, chickens, geese, ducks and rabbits. Kids love watching the cows being milked and collecting eggs from the chicken coop.
They also grow veg here, which you can cook over your log-burning stove in your safari-style tent complete with toilet but without electricity (you can store food for a short time in a cooking chest). The honesty shop also sells the farm's own milk, cider and apple juice.
