New York, the city that never sleeps, has endless opportunities for family-friendly days out. A huge metropolis but one that is surprisingly easy to get around with its easy to understand grid of streets and avenues – this is a city where everyone walks.
Don’t be sniffy about doing the tourist thing here – the iconic landmarks are all worth a visit and will thrill your kids. Take a trip to see the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Rockerfeller Center and Brooklyn Bridge.
A stroll along the High Line, an elevated public park built along a disused railroad offers a different view of the city and kids will love the novelty.
Throw in some culture with trips to some of New York’s best museums; the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim and the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art should all be on your hit list but perhaps the kids’ favourite will be the Museum of Natural History, set in an iconic building and one of the largest in the world.
Central Park, a firm favourite with locals and tourists alike is a great place to spend a day, an oasis of greenery with plenty of kid-friendly facilities to keep everyone happy. Don the rollerblades, head for the ice-rink in the winter and check out the playgrounds and carousel or head to Central Park Zoo.
Tick off as many movie scenes as you can (the list is endless) with a stroll around Grand Central Station and Times Square, where you can feed the kids hot dogs and soak up the buzzing atmosphere.
