The luxury all-inclusive Olympic Lagoon Resort on the beachfront in Paphos – which has a sister resort of the same name in Ayia Napa – sells out every summer. We checked in to find out what all the fuss is about.
First up are the five outdoor pools, including an adults-only pool for those staying in certain room types and a smaller kids' pool – nice and shallow with a little slide and loungers around it. There’s also one for older children, themed around a Mayan temple with slides, a main family pool and another more relaxing pool.
"The staff I met were all very enthusiastic and good at encouraging
kids to join in, whether it be at the mini-disco or zorbing on the pool."
There are also six restaurants to choose from. Our favourite was the 1950s-styled Rock n Roll diner, a teenager's dream, with booths to sit in and a classic American menu of shakes, burgers, hot dogs and fries. Service was brilliant, and with this being an all-inclusive resort, you can relax without worrying how much your lunch or dinner is going to cost. The day-time Snackeria was also very well stocked, with everything from ham sandwiches to take away to pastries, doughnuts and fruit pots.
Facilities here cater to most ages and tastes: they include a gym, an indoor heated pool, a tennis court and a mini football court where the popular soccer academy takes place.
The kids’ club, which covers ages 3-12 years, is bright and airy – indeed, one of the largest I’ve been to. The British staff operate a pager system so they can contact parents if necessary. There are indoor and outdoor activities throughout the day and evening plus a daily kids’ disco. The staff I met were all very enthusiastic and good at encouraging kids to join in, whether it be at the mini-disco or zorbing on the pool.
There’s also a lovely nursery room for babies to 36 months, with loads of toys plus cots for when they want a nap. The spacious Teenz club can be accessed with a membership card costing just €6 per day. It has a fantastic chill-out area, games consoles with all the latest games and a drinks machine. Teenagers sign themselves in and out.
If you want to get out and about, the Olympic Lagoon Resort is also just a 15-minute stroll from the town centre or a quick and cheap hop by bus or taxi.
