Iconic British seaside holiday firm Butlin's is spending £16 million on a new chalet village at its Minehead resort, scheduled to open in Easter 2015, after seeking inspiration from members of Mumsnet’s online chat forum.
More than 1000 Mumsnet members were consulted on everything from chalet layout to technology. Almost half of them were in favour of removing TVs from all rooms except family areas and the parents’ bedroom, to encourage more family time.
Almost 60% of respondents worried that the British weather would affect their holiday but were keen to encourage outdoor play when possible – hence, all of the 117 chalets will have arts and crafts materials for rainy days but also outdoor sporting items provided by Hasbro.
Lastly, after 88% of respondents stressed the importance of their kids making friends on family holidays, Butlin's is creating outdoor play areas with the likes of bandstands, boating lakes with remote control boats and giant Jenga. All making for a fun and active holiday resort for families on the Somerset coast.
