From December 2017, the growing family holiday destination of Ras Al Khaimah will be home to the longest and highest zipline on earth – although its exact length remains a closely guarded secret.
However, the zipline – which will occupy the UAE's highest peak, Jebel Jais – is set to break the current Guinness World Record of 2.2km, held by The Monster in Puerto Rico, and will exceed the length of 28 football pitches.
The attraction will actually consist of two lines, allowing friends or family members to fly together in a horizontal ‘superhero’ position. The minimum weight/height will be 35kg/1.2m. It will also have a Welcome Centre, a VIP lounge and a restaurant.
The Ras Al Khaimah zipline is an example of forward-thinking eco-tourism, using solar energy and locally sourced natural materials to ensure it blends in with the spectacular local landscape. It comes in the wake of Jebel Jais’s via ferrata course, opened in 2016, and adds to Ras Al Khaimah's growing reputation as an adventure tourism destination based on its combination of mountain, beach and desert settings.
