No-frills Icelandic airline WOW Air has expanded its US route network with daily flights to New York’s JFK Airport starting on 26th April 2018. With connections to a variety of destinations in Europe, this makes WOW a cheap way of flying from the US to the UK if you don’t mind a layover in Reykjavik – prices from London to New York were available from $99 one way (about £75) at the time of writing.
WOW’s growing US route (New York Newark, Boston, Baltimore, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Newark, Miami, Pittsburgh and Chicago, plus, from spring 2018, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Detroit, St Louis and Dallas) puts a wide choice of American cities within easier reach for those on a budget.
WOW’s cheapest Basic tickets cover only your flight ticket and a personal item (small bag/backpack, laptop or camera bag). WOW Plus adds a carry-on bag and checked bag, and WOW Biz adds a meal, extra legroom and cancellation protection.
Layovers on London–New York flights via Iceland last from seven to almost 20 hours, giving you time to enjoy the Blue Lagoon (a 40-minute drive from the airport) or to explore Reykjavik itself. For longer stopovers, you need to book two separate tickets.
